10 Albums That Influence You As A Young Person

01. Kiss - Dynasty
One of the first albums I ever got with my own money. Something about this ones flow/rhythm and style got me hooked on it and after a life time of western music and/or polka to that point, it was just so alive in comparison. I had heard it at a friends place and though, "Wow, what is this joy?"
02. Chris De Burgh - Man On The Line
It was so smooth and refined that it made me think in very different lines of music. This was not the classic rock I was listening to on my stereo, nor was it the kind of music I had gotten before - or listened to at a friends. This one I heard when over at a friends place and his mother was listening to it.
03. Eagles - One Of These Nights
To be honest, I'd never heard of them before I got this at Christmas from my Aunt and Uncle. I took it downstairs and my Cousins and I listened to it on the stereo and I loved it so much. Again, it opened me to a different perspective in regards to what, "good music was."
04. Devo - Are We Not Men?
Once again, heard this at a friends house. It's not like Mom would have listened to anything other than western music or polka, so I would never hear anything like this, and it got no radio play. My friends older brother was listening to it, and I just up and went out and got it that day.
05. Dr. Hook - Timeless
Heard this on the radio. It was the first time I could listen to FM on my stereo as I needed an antenna to do so at the time, and I had just got one. I was all in on this sound to say the least. Again, it opened more doors musically to my way of thinking.
06. Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
This was at that friends place your parents did not like you to go over and see. He had it on the stereo in the living room, and his parents worked late, so he was always alone in the house for a few hours after school. The driving and rhythmic sound and the way the guitars sounded, just made me need this in my life.
07. Nigel Mazlyn Jones - Ship To Shore
This is just way different that anything other that I'd heard to date and I needed to have it. The sound was earthy and just made me feel warm inside. It was like no other to date. So I went and got it. It was a lot as I had to order it in.
08. Rodriguez - Cold Fact
If you never heard of this guy, you bloody well should go listen to him on YouTube Music or some other service. It's amazing. His voice, the lyrics, the guitar - it's all an experience and once again it expanded my view of music forever. There is a bit of mystery to his life BTW.
09. Kraftwerk - The Man Machine
Went into the music store and said, "I want something like DEVO, but more refined and more lively." The girl takes over to the import section and says, "This is what you will want." I got it home and good golly, the synth music on this was totally epic. It was all electro and the way they sang like robots was just too cool to me at the time.
10. Plasmatics - Metal Priestess
To be honest, we had cable TV (finally) and I saw this on a late night video show out of Boston. It was a small market show and the hell if  I remember it's name. But they played a lot of metal and punk. Well Wendy O comes out and just knocks my socks off. I had to say, I was turned on by the music and her at the same time, so it was a double hit. I went full on punk rock in my style of dress for about 8 months. Mom bloody hated this cover BTW. She got 50 shades of pissed off when I brought home a Industrial Jazz album with a band name of, "The Slug Fuckers." The look on her face was epic, but Dad made her let me keep it. They would be on the list if it was going to 20 I think, but not in the top 10.
