The World is a Scary Place Right Now

It seems a lot less easy to be happy these days. The economy is horrible for the average person who can't invest a pile of money to get a decent return. Food prices have sky-rocketed in the last 2 years. Now with this mess between Canada and the USA, we face even harder times on both sides of the border.

Jobs will be lost in this stupid trade war. People are already living in tents and vans when they actually are employed because of the cost of housing being out of reach for many.

Food banks are maxed out across the country, and can't keep up with demand all the time. People are going hungry to pay the rent and keep the lights on.

The cost of a bloody phone keeps going way the hell up as well. Last time I had a contract for 2 years it was a bit less than $80, now I'm paying $101 for less data (much less).

I've seen people walk away from medications at the drug store after seeing how much it's going to be. Personally it was going to be $68 for a medication prescribed to me, and I told them, I can't afford it and had to walk away. Luckily I did not completely need this medication. For another one I tend to need 2 or 3 times a year, I have to rely on friends donating the funds to me to get it.

Then there is the real threat of actual global conflict. Tensions are very high with the actions of Russia and the USA effacing the security of other nations. These days with a conflict of this nature there is a risk of a devastating end to society as we know it.

There is a rise of White Male dominance over everyone else in the political scene in more than one country right now. Anyone with half a brain and the ability to remember the lessons of WWII can realize this just did not end well for millions of people last time.

And how about the threat of a totalitarians government that is actually run by a corporation, replacing the democratic system we have now? It's a valid threat to freedoms and if you look at what has been written about this as far back at the 1980's you can see the real threat of this in the USA right now. We would end up in a situation like the Soviet block countries where in before the fall of the wall. No freedoms, people vanishing after talking about the government, starvation, and no freedoms at all.

The best I personally can do right now is keep my mind busy and try not to think of how horrible life might be in a few years. I never thought I'd live in a time that is much more scary to the average person than the cold war was, but here I am living it.
