A Barber Shop, A Bathroom, And A Cop
Bob's Barber Shop by the City Hall and Police Station was owned by Keith McLeod and Bob Spriggs. From 1957 to 1969 Wesley Roy McLeod was cutting hair there. Reportedly there used to be an artificial pond at the location.
I have fond memories of getting my hair cut here and a shave. I've never had a better haircut or a shave than when I went here. I missed it when it was gone.
It was demolished to make way for the new City Police Station (Not Police Service).
It was well worth the price of parking to go here. A lot of the police went for a hair cut in this location at the time. I don't ever remember waiting long, maybe I just got lucky that way. I would always go down Main Street a bit and have a coffee and a snack at a then Chinese restaurant that was located on Main Street not far north from the City Hall. For the life of me I don't remember it's name. I do however remember the cops would enter in the back and walk through the kitchen to go for coffee or some food.
I don't actually have a memory of using this bathroom ever, but probably did at least a couple of times in my younger days. I do remember it being there and that people where upset when it was shut down. Again it was demolished to make way for the new police station in the 1980's (can't find exact date).
This is my Dad at work in the 1980's. He was at the time a detective in the Moose Jaw Police Service. He retired not long after this, if I remember correctly. Before this he was a cop in Regina and in North Battleford.
I remember him taking me to the police station to target shoot many times, and we would end up at the Chinese restaurant just north of the City Hall after and have a coffee with his co-workers.
